Analysis

Promotion should be by ability but age is often the overriding factor.
Working unsocial hours at normal rates of pay.
Getting junior staff to make coffee.
Staff are expected to work five hours per week overtime - whether they want to or not.
Warehouse staff can take home and use rejects and broken furniture.
Head Office staff start late and leave early.

Evaluation
Some of the customs have grown up over the years and are now a brake on efficiency.
There is a tendency to implement a rule as a panic measure in reaction to some untoward situation.

Strategy
Introduce more professional standards.
Review out-of-date customs.
Stop established staff exploiting junior staff.
Make all staff keep to proper timekeeping.
