Customization
of model
This
prototype is a website in its own right and is complete with pages filled with
information about Ashley Home Furnishings Limited and also pages describing the
aspects, elements and issues in general.
You can access the model immediately after unzipping it with WinZip, by double clicking on any of the .htm
files. (If you do not have WinZip, it can be ordered on-line from www.winzip.com.)
In all, the website consists of 130 pages in HTML and is only 1.1 MB in size.
You can use this as a basis for building your own on-line model for your
organization, simply by editing this prototype. The editing can be done
with FrontPage (used to build the website), Dreamweaver, or other website design
programs, but you can also edit the HTML text directly using WordPad,
Notepad, etc. Only the most basic facilities have been used - the text on each
page is defined within a table and the menu on the left is defined as a left
border. [Using FrontPage, an amendment to text in the border
file will automatically be included in every other page, otherwise you may have to alter
text in the border of every page individually.]
All the hyperlinks are in place so you only have to change the text
from the example to whatever you want - and you have a model of your own
organization.
If you wish to amend the model diagrams, the original PowerPoint files are
included for you to work with. However, you will have to set up the hyperlinks
to the aspects, elements, issues and home (index.htm) pages again.
This
prototype shows for each element: the Analysis, Evaluation and Strategy issues
on the same page. If confidentiality is a requirement then Evaluation and
Strategy could be shown on separate pages with access restricted to specific
users such as senior managers - or these two issues could be omitted altogether.
There is also a 105 page handbook of The Universal Business Model
included (in Word format).
